[Figure-2] Melgueira equipped |
1) have planning;
2) handling the swarm calmly;
3) dedicate time for this (division) Let's discuss each item above: 1) Have planning: It means you need to keep in mind exactly what needs to be done and how to do. What tools you need to be at your disposal should you need and place without interruption. Exactly what to do is easy, choose mature discs and removes them and then put the empty box.
[Fig, 3] Extension nest empty pots equipped with |
Prepare the empty box:
Yes, the planning also involved in preparing the empty box first of all, that is, equip the nest with wax pieces to support mature discs. Put some empty pots (see figure 1) equip the supers (figure 2) with containers to hold food, already equipped Phoridae hunting and empty pots for the bees to use to put pollen or honey, or simply cutting them to use elsewhere (coverage of discs per example). Equip the nest extensions with empty pots (figure 3).
[Figure-4] support Accessories |
Tools of support:
No tools will not achieve a lot at the time of division, so it's important to have them close to you. What tools: knife, chisel, syringe to collect honey, container to put honey, tape, paper towels, extension . of empty nest (to support the modules you will disassemble the mother box) Have you ever imagined you removing the modules and suddenly a honey pot breaks: ready, the syringe helps you harvest this honey before he stroke and Smear all nest and the paper towel helps too.
[Figure-5] mother Box |
Realized that the support tools is important !!! 2) Handling the swarm calmly: . To work with swarms You must have the time and inclination Look for a box whose mature creates discs are on top (near the top), otherwise you will have to rip any nest to check the mature discs down there and this will be a very great inconvenience. And handle it calmly, affection and patience, without damaging the young and those who are exposed, should be discarded to avoid attracting the phorid. 3) Dedicate time for this (division): Yes, you imagined doing a split and suddenly your phone rings, forgets, leaves with family and warns that can not be stopped for a few hours. The other day I was doing a split and our pet dog was near me wanting me to play ball with him, or is, he was hitting the ball to all sides and if by chance the ball hit the boxes as it is, accidents happen, so we have to devote time to it, will make division, then plan and schedule for that. You can have sure, if you follow these guidelines, the chance of division to work is very large. Big hug and much success to you.
Jatais is enxameando
[Figure-1] Jatais Bees (males) |
Spring coming (23 / September / 14), flowering appearance, pollen in large quantities, and our friends (ASF Stingless Bees) surely are already moving to this unique moment (Spring) in that they are doing to ensure enxameamentos survival of the species (swarms of multiplication of course, in nature).
However, we are contributing in this regard, that is, we also help by simply performing divisions and ensuring that they (divisions) to thrive.
['Figura-2] rational case for Jatai |
That's right, is not enough to make a division, we have to follow the entire development process until the cluster is strengthened, and when he arrives at this stage, we can leave the security on their behalf.
See in Figure-1, how many Jatais bees clustered on the wall, are actually Hornets preparing to fertilize the princess who is inside the box and then form another cluster, whose house is already determined.
[Figure-3] Jatais esvoaçando |
This time of year (Spring entry) is very common this phenomenon happens, all species perform the multiplications, each with its particularity.
In the case of Jatai species, we can enjoy this moment, because the way the swarming happens, it is very beautiful to see.
Thousands of bees are flying around the box, so many that it looks like a cloud.
[Photo-4] More Jatais |
Awesome, when the swarming process ends (fluttering bees), the mother with the entry box is practically destroyed. They take the wax from the nozzle while (new house).
But after a few days to drive back to normalize the mother box (it's the nature doing its part).
Note that during this process of swarming, bees went to the daughter box, are still looking for work material in the mother box, so if you notice one swarming, do not disturb the mother box (which he left the swarming) at least one month. In the event of interference the new swarm may suffer and not succeed.
These are details that go unnoticed, and it is important to understand it so we can do things correctly.
It's what I always say:
"First we have to understand how things work and then work with them."
And this applies to bees also need to understand how the way of life of them so we can help them.
Best regards and much success to you.
Some of ASF swarms of photos
[Figure-1] box containing mandaçaia |
[Figure-2] Swarm Jatai (My favorite) |
[Figure-3] Swarm Uruçu True |
Also under is Boldo (figure 3), INPA's a 20x20 box containing a swarm Uruçu True, the box includes the input protection and protected from the sun by wooden roof.
[Figure-4] Swarms of Mandi Black |
One of the species very cool to create is the Mandi Black or Yellow.
It's kind containing a large population and this makes them highly defensive, if a Phoridae get inside the casing, he did not wait to leave, the swarm there is boiling, so many bees. So for phorid has no time. That's it, create stingless bees is above all a very joyful art and at the same time we are contributing to nature:. preservation of the species Big hug and much success to you.
Mandi Yellow
[Figure-1] Bee Mandi in hair |
The swarm is usually very strong, as is composed of several individuals (bees) and that has a very large flock and the person who has no skill / intimacy with them ends up intimidating.
Look at figure 1, they like to "cuddle" in our head.
[Figure-2] Input Mandaguari (new swarm) |
All species of ASF has its own characteristics and well-defined, well some are shy, are few in numbers of individuals, other more aggressive, other well tame.
But with Mandi, the thing is a little different, it is rustic, resistant phorid and are ready for whatever comes.
That's why I create them in my meliponary, because I like to see them flitting around the box, making the guard.
And the final product of them:
- produces a delicious honey;
- produces very good quality propolis.
As for the process of creation:
- rustic and resistant bee;
- populous swarm;
- of easy adaptation.
Spring
[Figure-1] Yellow Ipe |
It is a time when there is the flowering of several species of plants.Therefore, it is a period in which nature is beautiful, presenting the human being with flowers colorful and fragrant. The function of this flowering is the beginning of the breeding season of many species of trees and plants.
[Figure-2] Ipe Yellow Foot |
Flowers that stand out in the spring :
pink, sunflower, daisy, orchid, jasmine, hydrangea, heliconia, Alamanda, clivia, gerbera, hibiscus, Gazania, jasmine-star, tear-of-christ, mouth dandelion, chrysanthemum, freesia, Estefania, narcissus, violet, foxglove, lady-of-the-night.

[Figure-4] Amora |
Look at that show enjoy harvest a yellowing, fragrant and appetizing coquinho (figure 3) or also reap a juicy blackberry as the figure-4.
Well, we humans look at what is available to our views, why not see also:
"Look at the wonderful work that stingless bees or sting is for all this to come true: germination of delicious and tasty fruit."
Let's enjoy the spring is already around us.
Best regards and much success for you .
Robots bees are built to artificial pollination in the United States

The bees that pollinate about a third of the food we eat, are dying at an alarming rate in the United States because of a mysterious phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder. The situation is so serious that, in late June, the White House set up a task force to develop within 180 days a coping strategy to protect bees and other pollinators. The crisis is attributed to a mixture of diseases, pests and pesticides.
While there is not an ideal solution, modern technology offers hope. The solution found by scientists is the replacement of bees micro-robots.
According to the site Venture Beat last year, researchers at Harvard University, led by engineering professor Robert Wood, introduced the first RoboBees, bee robots with the ability to take off and stand still in the air when connected to a source of energy. The project represents a major advance in the field of micro-air vehicles. The researchers believe that in 10 years the RoboBees may artificially pollinate an entire field.
The White House said that the crisis of bees and other pollinators "requires immediate attention to ensure the sustainability of our food production systems, to avoid additional financial impact on the agricultural sector and protect the health of the environment." Bees are responsible for about 15 billion dollars in agricultural production in the United States each year.
But RoboBees are not yet a viable technological solution. First, the small robots have to be able to fly on their own and "communicate" with each other to accomplish tasks as a hive of bees real.
Although Robert Wood has said that the threat that the crisis of bees is for agriculture was part of the original inspiration for the creation of a robotic bee, the devices are not intended to replace the natural pollinators. Wood points out that we still need to focus efforts in saving these vital creatures to the ecosystem. The RoboBees serve only as a "stopgap measure while a solution to the crisis is implemented."

I've said it before and I will repeat: "Nature lives presenting us with his wonderful, but due to our run on a daily basis do not realize that," You see the photos published in this post, this wonder is there for us to enjoy, just take a stop in everything we are doing and "notice" the beauty around us and thank God for this gift.
