An apiculturist
has installed his beehives
among almond trees,
disseminating them
in the orchard
so as to obtain
maximum pollination.
The aim is to obtain
a lot of almonds.
The optimal pollination
period of fruit trees
is very short,
two or three days only
for almond trees.

At the foot of Mount Canigou (France), pink peach trees spread all the way to the foothills of the Pyrenees. In the area, fruit trees bloom in succession: almond trees early in February, followed by apricot and peach trees until mid-March. Fruit trees bloom over a short period of time and their pollination by insects is necessary to obtain quality fruit.

On the plateaux of Ardeche near Lamastre, a cherry tree in full bloom announces spring. The lateness of its flowering is due to altitude and coincides with that of wild cherry. Arboriculture is developing in the area as it allows to delay the fruit maturity.

On a spring morning, a bee forages in a poppy field.
This flower contains no nectar but its pollen attracts bees. From the 1970's, the spreading use of selective weed killers has practically eradicating self propagating plants, poppies, blue bonnets and clover.

Melon is fairly attractive
to bees, as they find
substantial quantities
of nectar in the flowers.
Pollination is essential
to melon farming.
